Miss the 2020 HEN Film Feastival?
NOTE: This recording has been edited for clarity and to remove some comments determined to be insensitive. The panelists’ responses were not edited.
For the 2020 Film Feastival, HEN partnered with the National Organization of Blacks in Dietetics and Nutrition (NOBIDAN) Member Interest Group to host a virtual event on the theme of "Dismantling Racism in the Food System". HEN and NOBIDAN chose this topic in the wake of recent racial unrest and historical and ongoing racial injustice, and to recognize and work to end racism in our food system.
The live event included access to the 30 minute film Arc of Justice followed by a panel discussion with three esteemed panelists:
- Shirley Sherrod, Executive Director, Southwest Georgia Project for Community Education, Inc. and former Georgia State Director of Rural Development for the United States Department of Agriculture
- Monica White, PhD, Assistant Professor of Environmental Justice at the University of Wisconsin, Madison and author of Freedom Farmers: Agricultural Resistance and the Black Freedom Movement
- Helen S. Cohen, Director and Producer of Open Studio Productions and the Arc of Justice film
While HEN can no longer offer access to the Arc of Justice, the best way to access the film, for streaming or to purchase a DVD, is through the distributor, New Day Films. https://www.newday.com/film/arc-justice
For more information about the film, the backstory and other resources, please visit the Arc of Justice film website at https://www.arcofjusticefilm.com/. This is also the site for purchasing a DVD for private use ($19.99) — all streaming is through the New Day site above.
